Scholarships listed on this page in no way constitute an endorsement by the Red Bluff Union High School District.

Rather, this is an information source and the decision to participate in any program is entirely your own.

Caution!!!

Read this before you submit your scholarship applications.

People really do read your essays and this is your only chance to make a first, and lasting good impression. Check out this response from a local scholarship committee.

Dear Mrs. Gambetta,

My name is Sandra xxxxx.  I am on the Scholarship Committee for the Tehama County Association of xxxxxxx.  Miss xxxxxx submitted an application for a scholarship from us.   I was really rooting for her.  She is an exemplary student and her entrepreneurial spirit is admirable.  Her interest in xxxxxx is a plus, too.

She has a typo in her application.  We had to disqualify her application, as there are three times as many applicants as there are scholarships and more than enough without flaws to fill the slots.

Each scholarship requires its own unique application package; however, much of the information is cut-and-paste from one to the next. I am writing to you so you can let her know about this and correct the error before it goes out to any other scholarship grantors.

Every year the quality of young persons who apply from your school is uplifting and gives me great hope for the future.

Sincerely,

Sandra xxxxx

Chair, Scholarship Committee

    First Freedom Student Competition

The First Freedom Center announces the 19th annual First Freedom Student Competition. This national essay and video contest offers 9th - 12th grade students an opportunity to compete for $2,500 awards as they examine the First Amendment and the history and implementation of religious freedom and freedom of conscience in American democracy and the world today.

This year, students will select a person and/or group in their community, state or region, whose present or historic rights to the free exercise of belief are accommodated or, on the other hand, challenged by the public schools. They will then research and analyze how this relates to the broader narrative of First Amendment law and the right to freedom of religion, conscience or belief in the United States. Students will research history, current events, and the impact of the First Amendment in order to make their assessment. For the complete topic, essay and video guidelines, registration, classroom poster, student flyer and other details, visit www.firstfreedom.org, and then click on the red First Freedom Student Competition button (center column).

Students must register online on or before Monday, November 14, 2011, and the postmark deadline for mailing the essay or video with its accompanying entry materials is Saturday, November 26, 2011. Winners will be announced on Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, April 13, 2012.
